SUP World Tour

Or Stand Up Paddle Boarding Not Too Far Away

As I write this, Monday is in full swing with all of its customary baggage. And that means I’m thinking about everything that would find me on a SUP, somewhere far away preferably. So as I sit here daydreaming about taking a Sevylor Cimarron 12’6” Inflatable SUP

Sevylor Cimarron 12’6″ Inflatable SUP is perfect for that world tour you’ve been planning!

to a new body of water, I thought I’d share my list of things to bring. It won’t be a world tour, but it could be. In fact, any place you can take your stand up paddle board that is new to you, can be like a mini world tour.

So let’s talk a little bit about the choice of board. The Sevylor Cimarron 12’6” Inflatable SUP is the perfect choice for traveling, be it plane, train, or automobile. It’s lightweight (about 23 lbs.), provides excellent crossover opportunities (it can be a superior board in flatwater and be better than good in a race), and lastly, it comes with a two in one fin system.

As a flatwater board, this inflatable SUP is narrow enough to give you some excellent cut through most flatwater conditions, with a displacement hull that improves your tracking with every stroke. And because of that, the overall paddling experience generates less energy allowing to go farther. This is a narrow board and requires some expertise on your part to develop everything this board has to offer. The fin system allows for various testing to ensure you get the best performance, whether it be with all three engaged, one or just two.

Since this is a world tour, and I’m assuming you won’t be able to get any additional gear, you might want to add the following to your list of must have equipment. I’ve mentioned before that most of the pumps that come with inflatable boards leave something to be desired, and in this case, it’s also true. But if you take the Sevylor SUP Air Pump with you as well, using the manufacturer supplied one as a back-up, you should be able to get you board adjusted to the exact inflation that suits your style and water conditions.

For most everyday conditions and outings, you should probably go with a single, fixed length carbon paddle. But traveling requires a little more forethought. The Boardworks SUP 3 Piece Hybrid Adjustable Paddle breaks down to a length that can be packed right in with your inflatable board. It features a twin locking system and is surprisingly durable due to the fiberglass construction.

There is a lot more to pack though but you’ve got three of the most important items. You shouldn’t leave home without a repair kit, your GoPro, and some other lightweight, must-have gear. But that’ll be next week.
