Resort SUP Rental – Huge Demand

Paddle boarding is the #1 growing sport in the world and it was obvious when I recently visited Florida’s Amelia Island (on the Atlantic Ocean) and Clearwater (on the Gulf).  I saw more paddle boarders than ever…kids, families and adults enjoying the water.  Their shrieks of laughter and huge smiles were infectious.

On Amelia Island, I spoke with the gentleman who runs the water sports kiosk at the Ritz Carlton about the demand for SUP. He enthusiastically said, “our 2 paddleboards will NOT do. Guests line up in the morning to rent them for the day, and then I have unhappy customers who then can’t rent them.  I need 8-10 more ASAP.” (I understand the guests’ frustration as I wasn’t able to rent one either). He stated kayaks are not in demand like the SUP boards.

Resorts are finding – especially this year as the weather turns warmer – that the SUP craze is happening. If a hotel is on the water, people want to rent a paddle board.  SUP is in demand and a great revenue stream.  The most successful resorts I’ve seen who operate SUP rentals are similar to the Grand Wailea on Maui. They have a fleet of SUP boards, paddles and PFDs. They offer basic onsite instruction with a SUP rental. They rent hourly, which allows more revenue and quicker turn around for other resort guests to enjoy the boards too.

For can’t-be-beat pricing, durability and stability, a few great SUP rental boards are the Hovie Scout, Pau Hana Malibu, and others at Stand on Liquid. You can see the full lineup here:  Our team can help you customize the right resort rental package to suit your needs & budget.
